Has your email stopped working? In this blog post, we'll provide some basic troubleshooting information to help get your mailbox up and running once again.
Posted on 17 June 2015 - EmailPerhaps the most important aspect of your web hosting - certainly up there among the most important - is your email.
If you’re hosting your email on your own server (i.e. it is not hosted by Gmail or a similar platform), you will clearly want to ensure that your emails are available so that you know when customers are trying to contact you.
For that reason, when you suddenly realise that your emails are not working, it can be quite alarming. Fortunately, in the vast majority of cases it is something very simple that has gone awry and the problem can be solved very easily.
Here are some of the most likely reasons you’re not receiving emails.
Check your mail client settings because the server may be retaining too many emails. You can choose to delete from the server emails that have already been downloaded to your mail client. Try enabling this function or deleting the number of copies that are saved on the server to see if this solves the problem. You can follow these guides to do this for Outlook or Mac Mail.
Are you able to browse web pages? If not, the problem probably lies with your internet connection rather than your email.
Can you log in to you mailbox as usual? If not, there may be a problem with your mail client (i.e. Outlook, Mac Mail, Thunderbird etc.) In this case, you should provide the details of any error messages you are receiving and provide them to your hosting support engineer.
If you have ruled out all of the above and your mail still isn't working, provide the details of any error messages you are receiving and provide them to your hosting support engineer to help the troubleshooting process. If you're a Tibus customer, get in touch here.
