Some of the biggest names in sport were able to keep in touch with their fans during last night’s prestigious BBC Sports Personality of the Year award ceremony thanks to Tibus infrastructure.

We provide all the internet connectivity infrastructure for the SSE Arena, in Belfast, which hosted the event so successfully on Sunday evening.

Tennis star Andy Murray scooped the top prize and was named Sports Personality of the Year 2015. You can see his brother and fellow Davis Cup winner Jamie Murray using the wifi while a BBC journalist, also using the wifi, takes a photo of Andy in the tweet below.

We were absolutely delighted for our clients, who pulled off a fantastic event to 7,500 people in the arena and millions more watching at home on one of the biggest nights of the year for television. As ever, they made the planning and organisation look easy by hosting an event that ran seamlessly and was unanimously praised by those in attendance.

Of course, we know first hand that a huge amount of effort goes into the planning and logistics of every aspect of the evening, including making sure there are provisions for huge amounts of data to be wolfed down over the wifi as athletes, reporters and audience members all relay the event to the wider world and pose for those all-important selfies. We were delighted to play our part in ensuring they could do just that.

Hot on the heels of the SSE Arena website withstanding a huge spike in traffic from One Direction fans, this shows just how serious the team at the arena are about having the right technology in place for their customers. We think the team at the SSE Arena probably deserve to receive a gong of their own from Gary Lineker having hosted such an outstanding show without even breaking into a sweat!
